Aunt Bertha's recipe
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup caro syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 cups whole spanish peanuts (raw)
- 1 1/2 tsp butter
- 1 1/2 tsp soda
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- Mix in pan over moderate heat sugar, syrup and water. Cook rapidly until hard ball stage 268. Add peanuts and butter. Cook until hard crack stage.
- Stir in vanilla and soda, spread on greased cookie sheet. Spread as thin as possible. Let cool completely, break up into small pieces.
- Store sealed in air tight container so candy does not soften.
