English Toffee


  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 oz chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)


  1. Cook butter and sugar in pan over moderate heat to 310 (hard crack). Make sure all ingredients are combined. If it looks like it's just about to's done!
  2. Pour into buttered pan, spread evenly.
  3. After about 5 minutes (when the candy has hardened) sprinkle chocolate chips and let sit for a few minutes. With a spatula, spread the chips (they should have melted) over candy. You may need to work the chips a bit to get them melt all the way.
  4. Sprinkle chopped nuts over chocolate while chocolate is still soft. Let candy sit until completely cool and chocolate has setup.
  5. Store in air tight container so candy does not soften.
