Split Pea Soup | Peri's Place For Recipes

Oven Temp
Pressure Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 package split peas (small)
  • 2-3 ham hocks
  • 2 carrots
  • 1-2 potatoes
  • 2 stalks celery
  • salt
  • pepper
  • marjoram

Method

  1. Add ham hocks to pressure cooker, cover with enough water to be submerged 1 inch.
  2. Bring to pressure, lower temp and cook for 10 minutes. Allow pressure to release.
  3. Open container, remove hocks and allow to cool and then remove meat from the bone.
  4. Add the peas, ham meat, carrots, potatoes, celery, salt, pepper, and marjoram (to taste on all seasonings) back into ham hock broth.
  5. Bring to pressure, lower temp and cook for 8 - 10 minutes. Allow pressure to release.
  6. Enjoy.

Good to Know

You can skip the ham hock broth making step, though I do not recommend as it is a real pain to get the meat off the bone when it is covered with cooked split peas. Also, you get a much meatier flavor this way.

If you do not have a pressure cooker, replace those steps by cooking at a low simmer on the stove top for an hour.
